SOUTHWICK- RECONSTRUCTION OF ROUTE 10/202 (COLLEGE HIGHWAY - CENTER SECTION) FROM TANNERY ROAD TO 0.2 MILES SOUTH OF ROUTE 57
The project begins at Tannery Road and proceeds southerly ending at 445 College Highway Guiel’s Auto Body. The drainage system will include a drainage trunk line that will run along Tannery Road approximately 1377 feet ending where Slab Brook meets Tannery Road. The total length of the project is approximately 1.5 miles. The work to be done under this contract includes full depth reconstruction, cold planing, resurfacing, box widening with the addition of an exclusive center turning lane, concrete sidewalks and concrete wheelchair ramps, traffic signal reconstruction at two intersections, the extension of a culvert, drainage improvements and ornamental street lighting.

Work has begun for the replacement of traffic signals at College Highway and Granville Road/Depot Street. New poles for the replacement traffic lights are currently being installed. This should have minimal impact on traffic.

According to the MA. Dept. of Transportation (MassDOT) construction will start again in late March (depending on weather) with completion scheduled for early August 2012. For more information contact the Southwick Dept. of Public Works at Town Hall.

At the Board of Selectmen meeting today it was announced that the contractor (Palmer Paving) may continue doing work beyond December 24. Apparently this would include work off the roadway as part of the construction project. No further details are available at this time.

At the 12/12/11 meeting of the Board of Selectmen it was reported that Palmer Paving plans on working between the auto body south of Town Hall and the intersection with Depot Street between now and December 24.

Construction continues on College Highway. Businesses remain open and electric has been restored to College Highway. Information on remaining streets without power can be found on the town website at www.southwickma.org .

Construction is currently happening on College Highway at the Mobil Station (corner of Route 57). Traffic on College Highway is one way at a time with Police control. The "suggested" detour/bypass on Feeding Hills Road (Route 57) west is in place with a message board and signs at Powder Mill Road. The sign also points out that businesses are open. The suggested detour is Powder Mill Road to Depot Street to College Highway.

The meeting on Thursday afternoon October 6 was quite successful with a number of College Highway businesses represented. Officials from the Southwick Police Department, the Selectmen's Office, the Town Chief Administrative Officer, the Southwick Department of Public Works (DPW) and the MA Department of Transportation (MassDOT) attended. Information was distributed to those attending on voluntary detours around the construction project in the the coming weeks was provided. Additionally questions were answered regarding keeping business entrances open during construction.

An information meeting for the Southwick business community will be held on Thursday October 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to explain upcoming detours, etc. that will occur as part of the reconstruction of College Highway in the center part of town. The meeting is open to the public. It will be held in the auditorium of Town Hall. This meeting has been initiated by the Southwick Police Department.

Currently construction and some delays are just north of the Post Office. Expect one lane of traffic in this area during weekdays. The road returns to full access and two lanes of traffic on weekends and in the late afternoon and evening. Remember all business es in the area are open during construction.

The Board of Selectmen at their meeting of August 29, 2011 discussed the College Highway project. Concern was discussed about the traffic delay during the day for traffic. Town officials will contact the MA Dept. of Transportation about traffic delays and entry and exit from businesses on College Highway. On Tuesday August 30 officials have been contacted about the Town concerns. Stay tuned for more information and remember that the businesses are open regular hours and Saturday (Sunday for some businesses) when construction is not going on. ___________________________________________________________________________ 8/16/11
The project recently started with drainage and related work having started in the Tannery Road area. Mass DOT has indicated that drainage work will be done in the Fall 2011. Road widening, etc. will be done in Spring 2012.
As additional information is available it will be reported. Remember that local businesses are open for business during construction.
