This page will provide information on some of the activities that impact the business community in Southwick.  For details contact the business, Planning Board, etc.  Some items are highlighted on the front page of this website.

(January 21, 2015) A local restaurant and deli on College Highway is featured in an article today on The Republican website.  Click here to read it.  In other news the Southwick Planning Board approved a new sign for the funeral home opening on College Highway next to Family Dollar.  Also the owner of an Agawam business appeared before the Planning Board last night for information about building a new building on Whalley Way and moving his business to Southwick.  A public hearing on a proposal for a disk golf couse in town will probably be scheduled for late February. 


The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce will participate in a ribbon cutting event at a Southwick business during April 2014. 

Past Events/Activities:

(March 12, 2014)  The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce held an After 5 networking event at Nora's Restuarant in Southwick.  The event was very well attended including by businesses located in Westfield, Southwick, Blanford and West Springfield.  It was a good opportunity for business owners from outside of Southwick to see and talk with local business owners.  It was also a good opportunity to showcase a Southwick business.  The Southwick EDC had two members attending the event and promoting Southwick as a place to consider for your business.

(January 22, 2013)
The Mass. Broadband Institute will hold a meeting in Southwick to discuss the impact of the new broadband fiber that will be avaialbe later in 2013.  The meeting is free and open to the public.  It will be held at Town Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 30, 2013.  For further particlulars click here.
 
(October 10, 2012) On October 10, 2012 at a Special Town Meeting (STM) the voters approved the changes to the existing bylaws regarding Signs in Southwick.  For more information contact the Planning Board.  For a copy of the new sign bylaw click here.  Then proceed to pages 12-30 of the document.

(September 30, 2012) Southwick businesses are finalizing plans for Southwick Daze on Columbus Day weekend (Saturday & Sunday) October 6 & 7.  A number of businesses will be located in the parking lot of the Southwick Inn with entertainment and food available.  Other businesses may have activities of their respective locations.  For more information on being a participating business click here.

(June 8,  2012)
More than 100 members of the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce attended a breakfast meeting at the Ranch Golf Course in Southwick.  Speakers included Secretary Richard Sullivan (State of Mass.), State Senator Michael Knapik, State Rep. Donald Humason and State Rep. Nicholas Boldyga (of Southwick).  Two members of the Southwick EDC also attended.

(June 2012) The Town Planner is retiring from his position at the end of June 2012.

(May 2012)  A potential project on the property next to the Mobil station (on College Highway) is anticipated to come before the Planning Board this summer.  It would involve the replacement of the building currently on the site with a replacement building for some type of retail.  The Planning Board has informally spoken to property owners regarding solar farms on College Highway. 

(April 2012)   The Board of Selectmen at their Monday April 9, 2012 meeting approved a liquor license for the recently opened The Proud Chef at 784 College Highway.  An article was published on Tuesday April 10, 2012 in the Westfield News about the action including positive comments from the Police Chief. 

(March 5, 2012)  24 businesses have already registered for the Home & Business Show.  Registration Forms and payment should be received at Town Hall by March 12, 2012.  Registrations should be in an envelope addressed to Southwick EDC and mailed to or dropped off at the Town Clerk's Office.  Payment by check should be payable to: Town of Southwick.

(January 18, 2012) The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce held a successful event in Southwick with about 50 attendees. 

(January 2012) At the location of the Notch Travel Centre at 326 College Highway the Dunkin Donuts has closed and a new business has opened Fresh Fields Deli & Cafe.  The Dunkin Donuts has moved to Southwick Crossing and has opened.


(January 2012)  Letters to more than 300 Southwick businesses have been mailed providing information on the March 31, 2012 Southwick Home & Business Show.  Additional copies of the material is available outside the Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall (EDC information kiosk).  This information is also available on this website click here.

(November 2011) The Economic Development Commission at it's November meeting selected Saturday March 31, 2012 as the date for the 2012 Southwick Home & Business Show.  Additional information on this event will be available on this website in January 2012.  This Show will be free to the public and include only Southwick businesses due to space limitations.

(November 2011)  The new tax rate is now $ 14.23 according to the rate shown on the recently issued real estate tax bills issued by the Town Tax Collector.  This rate for residential, commercial and industrial property is still lower than most nearby communities.  For more information contact the Tax Collector's Office at Town Hall. 

(October 17, 2011) The Board of Selectmen after holding a public hearing with the Board of Assessors determined that the tax rate for residential, industrial and commercial would remain at 1 to 1 for all three categories.  This is the same as prior years.  Many communities have different rates for commercial and industrial versus residential. 

(September 2011) The Board of Selectmen have indicated that they are actively working toward the extension of sewers in Town starting with the new sewer connector to the Westfield treatment center.  For more information contact the Board of Selectmen's Office or the Sewer Implementation Committee.

(August 2011) The reconstruction of College Highway (U.S. Route 202) has begun at Tannery Road.  The work in late September/early October will involve work at College Highway and the intersection with Feeding Hills Road.  This portion of the work is expected to take 1-2 weeks.  Fore more information click here.

(July 2011) The Southwick Board of Selectmen (BOS) announced that the Town has received a grant of  more than $ 493,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Washington, D.C.  These funds together with low interest government loans will be used to fund the second water storage tank currently under construction.

(May 2011) The EDC is considering holding business workshops/presentations beginning in Fall 2011 for the local business community.  The sessions would be held early in the business day and less than one hour in length.  Watch this website for further details.

(May 2011) A residential condo project at 20 Depot Street has begun advertising.  The project will continue more than 50 units.  The project is not age restricted.  This development will support local businesses as it is built out. 

(April 2011) Several new homes are under construction in Town.

(April 2011)  The gas station on College Highway south of the town line has reopened as both a gas station and convenience store.

(April 2011) An El Paso Gas company subsidiary is in the approval process to build a $ 17 million pump station for their existing north-south pipeline in Town near Feeding Hills Road.

    • Griffin Land at 700 College Highway received approval for a 10 acre portion of a larger parcel
      • 700 College Highway - approved a wood transfer facility
      • 208 College Highway (Southwick Crossing) - Site Plan Review approval for a Dunkin Donuts in the former Bella Luna building.
      • 258 Feeding Hills road - Site Plan Review approval for an ice cream and other activities
        • 49 Mort Vining Road - Site Plan Review for a farm market/bakery, sit down restaurant at a farm
